Requiem - A friend

The screen of Requiem's phone was glowing and it was vibrating gently. She rolled over on the mattress and looked at the screen. It was a text from Sadia.

I spoke to the Grand Mage. You wouldn't believe how much influence your name has these days.

Requiem smiled bitterly. That particular reward had not been worth the losses she had suffered.

I told him that you needed my help. It would have been a long journey but he spoke to Sapient and it looks like they can spare the Teleporter for a few moments. I'll be there as soon as I can.

Requiem rolled back onto her back and stared at the dark ceiling. She could hear the soft breathing of Valice and her friend Chione who were sharing the room at Misti's house with her. The night was still and silent.

She felt another awareness, another set of thoughts flicker into being nearby. That would be Sadia arriving then. She sat up on the mattress, concentrated for a second to pinpoint the origin of those thoughts and then padded softly out of the room and into the kitchen.

'Requiem!'

She had forgotten just how long it had been since she'd seen Sadia. Her friend's hug was just a crushing as ever and her smile just as infectious.

'Hi Sadia. It's good to see you. I hope you know what you're getting yourself in for.'

Sadia flashed her a wicked grin. 'The Unnamed, Vile, a whole bunch of evil sorcerers and a plan worthy of the great Skulduggery Pleasant right?'

Requiem raised an eyebrow. 'If by 'a plan worthy of the great Skulduggery Pleasant', you mean no plan at all, then yep, pretty much.'

Sadia grinned even wider. 'I wouldn't miss this for the world, however long it may last.'

'Not long seems to be the current prediction.' Requiem regarded her friend. 'Sadia, has anyone told you that you're slightly insane to be excited about all of this?'

'Yes,' Sadia replied. 'You. Repeatedly.'

They both turned as Misti appeared in the kitchen doorway.

'I heard voices. Is everything ok?'

Sadia stepped forward, her wide smile still in place. 'Hi. I'm Sadia. I'm here to join your Suicidal Go Up Against The Unnamed And Vile Club.' She paused for a moment. 'Although, you know, you need a better name.'

Misti was only slightly taken aback by Sadia's enthusiasm. 'I'm Misti. Welcome to the club. Sorry I don't have snacks. There's been some grouchiness over that fact. What...?'

Requiem interrupted. 'Elemental.'

Misti looked at Requiem with an expression of mock aner on her face. 'Jeez Requiem, enough with the mind reading! It's polite to let people finish their question before answering!'

'She does it all the time,' chipped in Sadia. Requiem gave her a look.

'Come on,' she said. 'Let's find you a bed before you convince Misti that having me on the team was a worse idea thatn she already thinks it is.'

'Well....you are pretty useless in a fight.' Sadia remarked.

Requeim simply punched her lightly on the arm.

'Enough you.'

Laughing, the three of them headed out of the kitchen.

There we go! As usual, feel free to change anything you don't like.

  2. Thank you!
Yeah...Sadia is quite insane...I have a friend just like her in real life. If Vile and the Unnamed did turn up, she'd so want to be involved. Then again, if Vile and the Unnamed did turn up, that would mean that magic was real and so I'd want to be involved too!
